My delivery

I had a girlfriend tell me the other day to write down my labor & delivery because soon I will forget all the details.

Friday, April 18 (Good Friday) we went into the hospital at 7 a.m. I was only dilated to 2-3 c.m. Dr. Sauter recommended I had a round of certex to help drop my cervix down. I felt fine after the medication. I didn’t notice any contractions or anything. At 1 p.m. Dr. Quisno broke my water. By 2 p.m. I started having contractions. I remember telling myself I didn’t want to call my doula, Heidi until things started getting really intense. By 4:30 p.m. I had Mike text Heidi to come to the hospital. Ever since Dr. Quisno broke my water. I become extremely nauseous. It was really bad. I couldn’t even keep water down. I continue to get sick until 11:30 p.m. One the nurses commented that she had never seen someone puke as much as I did. I even puked on Mike. Poor Mikey P! He was a champ about it though. 🙂

Hours went on and slowly continued to dilate but by 11:30 p.m. my energy was fading because I had nothing in me and the pain was getting too intense. I was dilated to 7-8 c.m. but still didn’t know how much longer it would take to have her. I finally decided to get an epidural at 11:30 p.m. It felt great! On the down side, my contractions pretty much stopped but I dilated to a 9 by then. Around 1-2 a.m. they cut my epidural in half to help get contractions going away. They also gave me pitocin. As hours when on, I started to feel everything again and contractions picked up. I remember looking out the window and seeing the sunrise. I thought to myself, “Am I ever going to have this baby?” It was so long.

Around 6 a.m. I finally hit 10 cm so Dr. Sauter had me start pushing. By 7 a.m. Dr. Quisno came too. The pushing continued. Dr. Quisno joked that I wold have her before McDonald’s breakfast closed at 11 a.m. I remember thinking 11 a.m., really?! It’s going to take that long. Well I pushed for almost 4 hours and had our little girl at 10:59 a.m. just with a minute to spare. She was perfect! 8 pounds 7 ounces and 21.5 inches. She did inhale miconium so they had to take her right away to the pediatrician table to suck out the miconium. After that Mike cut the cord (shortening it to it was close to her belly). That was pretty close since originally he wasn’t planning on cutting the cord.

After 22 hours of labor, she was worth the wait. I love our little Emma Olivia. So blessed.

First time for everything

Today was Emma’s first bath at home. She wasn’t crazy about it. Ha! Can you tell??!! After that I attempted to do some newborn photography. I haven’t had a chance to edit the high res images but you get the idea. Today was also Emma’s first walk and her first set of hiccups.

This little girl melts my heart every time I look at her. Sooooooo in love!

Presenting Emma Olivia

Emma Olivia was born on Saturday, April 19 at 10:59 a.m. after 22 hours of labor. She was worth the wait. She weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces and was 21.5″ long. We are soooo in love with her.

41 weeks, 2 days

I had my 41 week appt yesterday. I am now dilated to 3 cm and 75% effaced. We did a stress test on the baby and baby is perfectly healthy. I also had my membranes swept so hopefully that gets labor started soon. Dr. Quisno thinks I will go into labor naturally either today or tomorrow but just in case, we have an induction date set for Friday. I really hope she comes on her own. 🙂

Here is a short video clip of baby p moving like crazy.

40 weeks & 6 days!

I can’t believe tomorrow I will be one week over my due date! Crazy, I always thought I would make it to my due date or go a couple days past my due date but I never thought I would go a week past. I trust that God has a plan for the arrival of my little girl so I just need to be patient.

Tonight I was in line at the store for a couple groceries and I noticed a lady was looking at me but didn’t think much of it. She came up to me when I was in the self check-out and said she was from new life church and she felt that God was telling her to do this. She handed me a dan’s gift card and a new life church business card. She said no strings attached, she just felt God told her to talk to me and wanted to pray for me and my baby if that was ok. I said that was fine. She put her hand on my shoulder and began to pray for me and my baby in the check out line. I was so overcomed with emotions. I felt the Holy Spirit came over me. When I got into my car, I just started crying. I was just taken back by the whole situation and experience. God is so good.

Week 40, day 5

So I am 5 days past my due date. I have tried everything to induce labor naturally. No joke! Ha! I had 3 acupuncture treatments, ate pineapple, spicy food, pizza and drank 3 red raspberry teas from Steep Me A Cup of Tea, did a body pump class, went jogging and did Annie’s Zumba class. No such luck!

Heather and I went for a long walk and then got pedicures. 🙂

Dr Quisno reassured me that me going past my due date is completely fine. I am measuring fine and she has no concerns since I am so healthy. That was really reassuring to hear. She is an awesome doctor. I love her!

Today’s my due date!

I can’t believe that my due date is already here! It’s so crazy to think any day/hr I could go into labor. This weekend, I had a lot of Braxton hicks contractions but it never evolved to anything more. I went on a lot of walks to try to help get things started. No such luck! 🙂 I am starting to feel more “ready” for baby P this week than last week. I just can’t wait to hold her!

I have an acupuncture appt and dr appt later today. We will see how those go.
